About us

Incorporated in 2003, The House of James (HoJ) is a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Illinois whose primary mission is to provide Recovery Home and Transitional Housing services for individuals in the community suffering from indigence, returning citizens and those in recovery from substance abuse.

The House of James sites are licensed by the State of Illinois, Department of Human Services, Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR) and with over 19 years of operating experience as a Transitional Housing and Support Services provider in Chicagoland.

We are one of the few licensed recovery homes servicing the Harvey and Dolton communities. These communities are at an even greater risk of unemployment, homelessness, opioid use and addiction. This has increased dramatically in recent years. Chicagoland has had an epidemic of overdoses due to opioid use more than doubling since 2013 to over 1,100 a year. This has also increased the rate of homelessness in the community as well.

Our programs include but are not limited to 24-hour recovery home services, employment services, transitional services, client evaluations and case management. We provide random drug tests to further strengthen accountability as well as mentoring and recovery coaching. We have a holistic program that addresses the severity of the individual’s needs, addictions and mentoring leading to behavioral changes.

The House of James mission is to operate a supportive housing program where men can reestablish themselves as not only productive members of society, but as assets to their local communities.

Every lesson is passed down from Liz’s family to yours.
